Especially for junior players, shoulder pads shouldn’t restrict movement but should move with the player on the ice. That’s exactly what matters with this size: the shoulder area, upper body, and how the pads coordinate with the rest of the equipment must all fit together so that stick handling, skating, and changes of direction remain natural. For parents and clubs, a clearly categorized youth shoulder protector is often the smarter choice than an oversized senior model, because the fit and freedom of movement can be significantly better.

The key is proper coordination with the player’s build and the rest of the protective gear, so that the shoulder pads sit securely and don’t slip under the jersey.
